An abyssal cleft in the world more than a thousand miles long and two hundred miles across at the widest point, the result of a cataclysm of unthinkable magnitude more than eight centuries ago, the Earthwound stretches down into untold depths below. Spread along the monumental walls of this cyclopean rift are a series of tilting terraced plateaus wide enough to hold whole lakes, rivers, forests, meadows – and entire nations of people.
Earthwound is a custom world that uses the generic 4th edition D&D setting as a framework, but builds in changes to some of the fundamental assumptions of the system. Most notably, it incorporates enough elements of ‘low fantasy’ to require radical change to the alignment system (i.e. its removal), which has a significant knock-on effect for the morality and cosmology of the setting.
